Back at 11.50am on the 15th October 1970, the western span of the Westgate Bridge (then under construction) collapsed. 35 Workers were killed and a number were injured.

The usual ceremony will be held before noon, under the span that fell, in front of the memorial plaque. However afterwards there will be a special function at the nearby Science Works. Besides some key note speeches, well known singer and songwriter Mark Seymour will perform. One special song will be a dedication to the workers of the West Gate Bridge.
