HEALTHSCOPE BID FOR SYMBION |
|
As members would be aware, the Symbion shareholder vote for the Healthscope offer fell short of the 75% required to vote in favour of the offer. We understand from announcements by Symbion Health that discussions are continuing between Healthscope and Symbion in relation to Symbion’s pathology assets. We will continue to monitor the situation. |

ORGANISATIONAL CHANGE - CONSULTATION |
|
YOUR RIGHTS AT WORK
Members have the right to be informed and consulted about changes to their roles and work practices that will have a significant effect on them. Where employers fail to do so the union can only assist where:
1. We have all the information 2. Members ask us to assist
What we don’t know… is unknown and we can’t act. Similarly the Union cannot put precious resources into areas where members don’t want us to act or are ambivalent.
If change is occurring in your workplace
- Insist that in impact statement be sent to the union
- Consult with your co-workers - is there general agreement? – how will this affect you?
- Consult the union about an action plan

At the request of members we have written to RCH expressing concern in relation to proposed classification of psychologists working on community teams, including as team coordinators. We have also sought a meeting to discuss the establishment of a Working Party to monitor and evaluate the effects of the changes in structures that are being introduced. A meeting of VPA members has been scheduled for 3.45 pm on Tuesday 25 September at RCH. |

Peninsula Health & Community Health |
|
Potential Amalgamation The Union has recently become aware of a proposal to amalgamate Peninsula Health and Peninsula Community Health Services. We understand that a report has been prepared by DHS and can be viewed here: http://www.dhs.vic.gov.au/rrhacs/phb_peninsula.htm. On the basis of this report the government will make a decision about amalgamation. As the actual process for amalgamation will be a complex task we would not expect a sudden change but will work through amalgamation issues if that decision is made. The union will insist that our members are properly consulted about changes to their working arrangements. |
