| Private Practice Rights - Psychologists in the Public Sector |

We still have not received the Department of Health Options Paper on Private Practice Rights for Psychologists employed in the public sector. We were promised that the Paper would be available at the end of September 2009 and again that it would be available prior to Easter 2010. Now that the public sector enterprise agreement has been approved we will be lodging a dispute in Fair Work Australia over the failure of health services to enter into discussions with the Union over this issue. This is occurring in the context of experienced psychologists, and in particular clinical psychologists, leaving the public sector in favour of private practice. This is having a profound effect on the availability of mental health services for people with complex needs, on the supervision of more junior psychologists and on the supervision of provisionally registered psychologists.
