On 1 May 2007 the ACCC commenced a review of the Healthscope bid for Symbion Health. The ACCC brief was to examine whether the merger had the potential to reduce competition. The MSAV lodged a submission in relation to the merger of Gribbles Pathology (Healthscope) and Dorevitch Pathology (Symbion). Submissions closed on 18 May 2007.
On 20 June 2007 the ACCC published a Statement of Issues outlining its preliminary concerns about the merger. These concerns largely relate to Victoria, and the potential for the merger to reduce competition in both human pathology and veterinary pathology. The ACCC has invited submissions in relation to the Statement of Issues. The MSAV will be making further submissions (written and oral). Submissions close 11 July 2007, with the final announcement due on 25 July 2007.
