We remember that when the Liberal & Nationals were in government in the 1990s they abolished awards, stopped payroll deduction of Union fees, sacked thousands of health workers and privatised pathology services in regional Victoria. The ALP government in Victoria stopped the planned privatisation of the Austin Hospital and brought Latrobe Regional Hospital back into the public system. Pathology at the Royal Children’s Hospital was on the brink of privatisation, and this was also stopped. The Government has also entered into an IR Agreement with the public sector unions, including us, which prescribes a fair process for enterprise bargaining, and ensures a process of consultation over organisational change in the public sector, including health services. In this election we urge members to vote for the ALP government. If you intend to vote for the Greens we urge you to put the ALP second. It is important to put the Liberals and Nationals last, to avoid a re-run of the anti-worker anti-public services disaster of the 1990s.
