It is difficult to keep up with all the projects, enquiries and consultants’ reports that are currently happening, affecting members in a range of health disciplines.

The Victorian Department of Health has just engaged consultants Healthcare Management Advisors to develop a Supervision and Delegation Framework for the Allied Health Assistant (AHA) Workforce in Victoria.

Part of the project will be to develop ‘understandings’ of the role and scope of practice of AHAs, as well as issues of clinical governance. The proposed AHA Supervision and Framework manual will have general applicability to all AHA discipline specific teams, and to multidisciplinary roles, according to the stated objectives of the project.

It is proposed that in addition specific guidance will be developed for AHAs working in Nutrition and Dietetics, as well as 4 other disciplines. The MSAV will be consulted as a stakeholder. We welcome feedback from members. Please send comments to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Note that in a 2009 study no roles were identified for AHAs in audiology, and very limited AHA roles were identified within dietetics, apart from food monitors. http://www.health.vic.gov.au/workforce/allied/docs/Allied-Health-Assistant-Scoping-Project-FINAL.pdf
