Medical Scientist, Grade 1
P/T (20h/w), Perm
Pathology – Monash Medical Centre Clayton
A part time position exists for a Grade 1 Scientist in our Anatomical Pathology Department at Monash Medical Centre. You must have a Bachelor of Applied Science (MLS) or recognised equivalent with experience in Histopathology. Be able to perform all tests provided by the unit without supervision (following suitable training) which include:
- Perform routine duties in the Histopathology laboratory in accordance with the laboratory staff roster;
- Perform and assist with the specimen cut up;
- Responsible for the satisfactory labelling, processing, and paraffin embedding of biopsy and necropsy specimens;
- Prepare paraffin sections of biopsy and necropsy specimens;
- Prepare frozen sections for urgent diagnosis;
- Perform routine, special staining and immunohistochemistry techniques using prescribed methodologies and appropriate control procedures;
- Assist at renal biopsy procedure to insure appropriate tissue sampling;
- Prepare cytology specimens using prescribed methodologies procedures;
- Other duties as directed.
The successful candidate is expected to participate in staff rotations and overtime as directed.
