Pathology – Monash Medical Centre Clayton


A part time position exists for a Grade 1 Scientist in our Anatomical Pathology Department at Monash Medical Centre. You must have a Bachelor of Applied Science (MLS) or recognised equivalent with experience in Histopathology. Be able to perform all tests provided by the unit without supervision (following suitable training) which include:

  • Perform routine duties in the Histopathology laboratory in accordance with the laboratory staff roster;
  • Perform and assist with the specimen cut up;
  • Responsible for the satisfactory labelling, processing, and paraffin embedding of biopsy and necropsy specimens;
  • Prepare paraffin sections of biopsy and necropsy specimens;
  • Prepare frozen sections for urgent diagnosis;
  • Perform routine, special staining and immunohistochemistry techniques using prescribed methodologies and appropriate control procedures;
  • Assist at renal biopsy procedure to insure appropriate tissue sampling;
  • Prepare cytology specimens using prescribed methodologies procedures;
  • Other duties as directed.

The successful candidate is expected to participate in staff rotations and overtime as directed.
