Employers are legally required to provide new and existing employees with a federal government’s “fact sheet” between 20 July – 20 October 2007. Employers can be fined $110 per employee if they fail to comply.  All this “fact” sheet does is inform people about the existence of the “fairness test” introduced by the Howard government in an effort to reduce the caning it is receiving on IR.

  •      It  does not inform workers about the loss of fairness in laws relating to termination of employment and the ability of an employer to sack an employee for “operational reasons”.

  •      The fact sheet does not talk about the removal of the concept of “a fair go all round” in the Workplace Relations Act.

  •      The fact sheet does not talk about the removal of the AIRC’s powers to settle disputes, arbitrate the terms of Awards and set minimum wages.

All in all a farce designed to hoodwink Australia.

Some members have had these fact sheets shoved in their faces and been required to sign a form.  Our advice: Refuse to sign anything that you do not understand or are unsure about.
