Productivity is not an abstract term to Australian workers, meaning instead "unpaid hours, phone calls out of work and doing more for less", according to the ACTU Working Australia Census. The census – a combination of online survey and public polling – was responded to by some 42,000 workers. It showed that Australia was experiencing a "productivity squeeze" meaning productivity increases were being achieved through unpaid work and greater pressure on workers rather than from infrastructure and educational investment. This backs up Australia Institute research that shows that Australians were working the longest hours of any developed country. [See the link below for a copy of the full report.
