Response to Psychology Board of Australia Consultation Paper No 11 – September 2011 The VPA welcomes the proposal that Union PII policies should be recognised in the new proposed Professional Indemnity Insurance Standard. The VPA has consistently argued for recognition of Union group insurance policies. However there are a number of issues that require clarification in the Board’s proposals, or are problematic. The VPA’s submission in response to the Consultation Paper is available at www.vicpsych.org.au -> Documents -> Other -> Submissions (login first). For members in the public sector a combination of the employer’s policy (which will cover malpractice) and the VPA policy (which will cover matters which may go to the Board or other hearings) will provide sufficient PII cover to meet the Board’s requirements under the Board’s new proposal. Members employed in the private sector may need written confirmation from their employer that it has adequate PII in place to meet the Board’s requirements. The changes proposed by the Board so far is great news for VPA members and reflects our submissions http://www.psychologyboard.gov.au/News/Past-Consultations.aspx Watch this space for the final changes.
