Members Want Unpaid Work to Stop PDF Print E-mail

A general meeting of MSAV, VPA and AHP has condemned the escalating level of unpaid work being performed by our members in our workplaces.

Strong views were expressed by those present that unpaid work is in reality a gross exploitation of our members’ good will and their commitment to maintaining high standards of health care.

The meeting made a unanimous decision to immediately start a campaign with our members to end all forms of unpaid work. A significant part of this campaign will involve shifting the responsibility to maintain health care standards back to health executives to properly staff health services.

The meeting wants to see an end to the days of health executives cutting workforces to reduce costs and assuming that our members will just work harder and longer to maintain services.

MSAV/VPA/AHP MEMBERS MEETING MOTION ON UNPAID WORK

This general meeting of MSAV, VPA and AHP members regards the current levels of unpaid work as unacceptable and the levels of distress and duress our members currently experience as a result of increased workloads as intolerable. This situation is utterly unacceptable and must be immediately redressed in the interests of our members and to reverse the negative impact on patient care.

This meeting expresses its strong support for an immediate campaign to eliminate unpaid work and workload stress from our workplaces, which has now reached a crisis level.

This meeting requests that the Union take the necessary actions to communicate directly to members to commence a strategic campaign to ensure our members across all disciplines and health services no longer perform any form of unpaid work and to have workplaces staffed to appropriate levels.
