Peter Little, a long standing member of the MSAV, was recently made a Member of the Order of Australia for his service to people with diabetes and to Diabetes Australia, and for his research into the vascular effects, treatment and prevention of diabetes. Cardiovascular disease (heart attacks and strokes) is the biggest cause of premature death in people with diabetes. The research of Peter and his colleagues at the Baker Institute is well on the way to developing a drug which will act directly on the blood vessels to prevent atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).
Peter has worked at the Baker Research Institute for the past 20 years and has been an active member of the MSAV during that time. Peter and Nina Davidson (past President of the MSAV and Job Representative at Bayside Health) notably fought and won battles for improved terms and conditions for medical scientists in the ‘bad old days’ of the Kennett Liberal government in the 1990s. We congratulate Peter on his award, and the recognition of his contribution to medical science.
