It is 50 years this week since the formation of the Association of Hospital Scientists in Victoria. The Association was incorporated under the Companies Act 1958 (Victoria) on 8 August 1957.

The MSAV was formed in 1980 as a result of the amalgamation of the Association of Hospital Scientists in Victoria, the Dietitians Industrial Association of Victoria and the Medical Laboratory Scientists Association of Victoria, and became a trade union registered under the Victorian Trade Union Act 1958 in the same year.
