Workplace Relations: A Catholic Perspective 

This book, written by Brian Lawrence, identifies four rights for workers, rights which are either missing entirely from the Howard government’s WorkChoices legislation or which are restricted. These rights very similar to the Charter of Employment Rights discussed in last week’s Stat Report. They are: 

• The right to a just wage
• The right to protection against unfair agreements
• The right to participate in unions
• The right to job security

 The book takes the view that a modern market economy should be able to deliver economic prosperity and social justice, and that the fair and just treatment of workers is an essential requirement of a just society. Read a review here
