The postal ballot of members to vote to take industrial action opens on Monday 17 December 2007. Members employed by Melbourne Health, St. Vincent's Health, Austin Health, Southern Health, Bayside Health, Bendigo Health, Eastern Health and Goulburn Valley Health will receive ballot papers next week. The question you will be asked is as follows:
In support of reaching a Union collective agreement with your employer do you support taking protected industrial action which may involve one or more of the following? · Bans on processing of data including the collection of statistics, contact records, daily returns, and or meetings/activities · Restrictions on the provision of reports · Bans on attendance at any meetings that are not fully backfilled · Restrictions on facilitating the discharge of patients · Restrictions on accepting secondary community caseloads and/or teams and/or worksites · Restrictions on the working of overtime/on call/recall, including regularly rostered overtime · Restrictions on taking on new patients/clients · Stoppages of work · Bans on the provision of data for the purposes of revenue collection · Restrictions on the provision of blood for elective surgery · Refusal to answer telephones in the relevant department · Refusal to deliver pathology specimens or patient referrals to the relevant department Vote YES to put pressure on the DHS and the Brumby government to √ Maintain science-based health professionals rates of pay √ Address the attraction and retention issues and shortages of science-based health professionals in Victoria √ Work with us to establish proper classification structures for scientists, dietitians, psychologists and pharmacists Unfortunately industrial action seems to be the only language this government understands – certainly reasoned argument including comparative salary data with rates of pay in NSW have had no impact on the government’s position. There will be some activity at some sites next week but we all need to gear up for industrial action after the close of the ballot on 15 January 2008 – unless the Government comes to its senses and makes us an acceptable offer now. We will liaise with members and job reps at all key sites.
