Healthscope is appealing against a decision of the New Zealand High Court which set aside the contract between Healthscope subsidiary Lab Tests and the Auckland District Health Board for the provision of public pathology services. The action was brought by Sonic. (In Victoria Sonic operates as Melbourne Pathology and Healthscope runs the Gribbles Pathology service.) The $NZ560 million contract was found to be invalid because of probity concerns in the tendering process. Auckland District Health Boards are not appealing the decision. The Auckland contract was due to start in July this year. Healthscope has built a new laboratory intended to service the contract.
