AUSTIN HEALTH INVOKES MASTER/SERVANT RELATIONSHIP |

A further meeting has been held with pathology management in an attempt to resolve the rostering debacle. Members are very concerned about understaffing of the roster, and the whittling away of traditional rights which they have enjoyed. Pathology management has invoked the Dickensian notion of master/servant to reorder relations in the laboratory. We have been told that acknowledging people’s rights is time consuming and inefficient. However, in practice, authoritarianism may introduce inefficiencies and dysfunction into the Austin laboratory if management go ahead with threatened plans to post a July roster which ignores the needs of the scientists on it. We will be liaising with members over the July roster to assess what action may need to be taken to protect their rights.
