Yet Another Review of Public Pathology |
The DHS, through the ‘Management Innovation Council’ has put out a tender to consultants to develop an options paper re ‘future service models’ for public sector pathology services, focussing on innovation, service quality, effectiveness and efficiency, and explore possible models of structure, governance and service provision.
Given that the Management Innovation Council asks questions of hospitals such as Do you need to cut costs, reduce staff numbers or do more work with the same resources? (and if the answer is Yes we can help you), we are naturally wary of the agenda of those behind the pathology review. We will be seeking more information regarding the make up of the steering committee for the review, and its terms of reference. It seems to us that it starts from the quite unfounded premise that public sector pathology is not effective or efficient.
