I work in a public health service. I was employed by my current employer on 26 June (the date of the signing of the Heads of Agreement) but was not employed here on 1 January 2008. Am I entitled to backpay and the sign on bonus? You are only entitled to be paid the sign on bonus by your current employer if you were working for your current employer (in the public sector) on 1 January 2008.
Everyone in our classifications who took up employment with their current employer after 1 January 2008 is entitled to back pay in relation to the increases in salaries and allowances from the date that they commenced employment with their current employer. I was employed in a public sector organisation on 1 January 2008 but have since resigned my position. Is my previous employer liable to pay me the sign on bonus and backpay? Yes, your previous employer is liable to pay you the sign on bonus, and backpay for the period 1 January 2008 until the date your ceased employment with that employer. This includes backpay for any payment for annual leave, annual leave loading, long service leave and ADOs. If you are having trouble with obtaining backpay from your previous employer please refer the relevant manager to VHIA EBA Bulletin 1362. Still no action? Ring our offices for assistance.
