MSAV and VPA members are covered by the Union’s group professional indemnity insurance policy. Members are reminded that they must immediately notify the Union should they become aware of any incident which may lead to a claim of professional negligence against them.
Failure to do so may result in the insurer rejecting the claim. Members with a private practice are also reminded that they are only covered under the group policy if the earnings from private practice are less than $25,000 per annum. Members who earn in excess of this amount in private practice are advised to take out their own insurance. Also note that the Union policy only covers members who trade under their own name as sole traders, and not as a partnership or as company. Psychologist members must also be employed by an employer to be covered by the policy in relation to private practice. For membership purposes of the VPA, hours of work should include hour engaged in private practice, as well as hours employed as an employee. More details of the professional indemnity cover for MSAV and VPA members are available on the website.
