If you think all workers have equal rights at work think again. The ABCC (Australian Building and Construction Commission) has extraordinary powers to intimidate workers and their unions in the building industry. Noel Washington, an organiser with the CFMEU, is facing charges in the Magistrates Court for going about his business representing members. For more information go to Rights On Site.
As was reported in Stat 675, this Union passed a motion calling for the abolition of the ABCC and supporting Noel Washington at the HSU#4 AGM. A copy of the resolution is available in the Minutes of the meeting on the website. (Login first) Unless we fight for rights we will lose them. The Union movement in Victoria is planning a march and rally at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on the day of Noel Washington’s trial. The date is likely to be Tuesday 2 December 2008 but this may change. We will keep member’s informed.
