F/T, Temp (12 months) Victorian Cancer Biobank – MMC Moorabbin

The Southern Health Node of the Victorian Cancer Biobank is seeking to appoint a Medical Scientist Grade 1 who will assist the Tissue Bank Manager in procuring, processing and maintaining an extensive inventory of blood and tissues samples. In addition, the scientist will assist in maintaining a comprehensive database. The successful applicant will be expected to travel to other sites of Southern Health to obtain patient consents and collect and transport fresh surgical specimens from operating theatres to designated pathology laboratories for processing (own vehicle required). Applicants should have: a flexible attitude, including the capacity to acquire new skills and multi-task; excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively; sound written and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with patients and multi-disciplinary medical and scientific staff; good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access databases. 

You would be expected to have a BSc, BAppSc or equivalent in a relevant health or research related discipline.The position is funded for one year with the possibility of renewable contract, subject to a satisfactory performance appraisal.
