Income Protection Insurance at St Vincent's Health |

The drafting of the public sector agreement has highlighted a number of problems with the way St Vincent’s has been applying the 1994 agreement in which some sick leave accumulations were traded off in exchange for income protection insurance. Chief among these is that pharmacists are not included in the 1994 agreement but have had their sick leave reduced as if they were. We will be organising meetings of members to discuss how to deal with the issues which have arisen. A further complication is that the Federal Court has found that income protection insurance is not a matter pertaining to the employment relationship, which means that it is not a matter that can be contained in a collective agreement. That decision is being appealed to the High Court.
