The Union is pursuing a number of claims on behalf of members employed in the private sector and private pathology who have yet to receive payment for their 2009 public holiday entitlements. It seems some private sector employers are unaware of their award/agreement obligations to staff rostered off on a public holiday. Where a public holiday occurs on an employee’s rostered day off, the employee is entitled to receive one and a half days pay in addition to their weekly wage or one and a half days off without loss of pay. For Monday to Friday employees, Saturday and Sunday are the rostered days off.
