We have been in dispute with Southern Health for a number of months in relation to the underpayment of part-time staff for public holidays on which they are not usually rostered to work. Our public sector agreement is very clear that the payment should be based on an 8 hours shift, pro rata according to the number of hours worked by the part-time member of staff as a proportion of 38 hours. We don’t understand what Southern Health finds so difficult to understand.

Are you a part time worker in the public sector?  Are your shifts less than 8 hours? If so please check what you have been paid for public holidays in the last 12 months and beyond and let the Union know.

We would particularly like to know if you are rostered on a night shift that straddles a public holiday and what you have been paid in that circumstance.
