Among other things, the Consultation Paper includes the following proposals:

• Masters or Doctorate to be the base qualification for registration as a psychologist (phasing out the 4 + 2 over 6 years), in line with international standards.
• The Board to take over the approval/ registration of psychologists under specialist titles such as Clinical Psychologist (noting that the APS Colleges have no legislative imprimatur and that there is no sanction against a psychologist who is not a member of the APS College using the term). There are 10 specialist titles proposed including Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist.
• Proposal for a maximum period of 3 years when a person is not practicing to be eligible for re-registration or maintaining registration. At present the legislative requirement in Victoria is 2 years.
