The Union made an application to have the lockout of members by management suspended, so that further bargaining could occur with representatives of Dorevitch Pathology and Gippsland Pathology.
Private discussions took place in Fair Work Australia (FWA) yesterday under the auspices of Commissioner Cribb. Further private discussions will be held in FWA tomorrow, Saturday. Meanwhile the 22 members remain locked out of their employment. This is having a huge financial and psychological impact on individual members, although as a group they remain solid and positive. People are upset and concerned that they have been singled out by their employer to be punished in this way. Many of the members who have been locked out are senior scientists with many years of loyal service to Dorevitch Pathology, including laboratory managers and heads of disciplines. Thanks to all members who have donated to the Fighting Fund so far, and who have sent messages of support. We ask all members of the MSAV, VPA and AHP who have not donated so far to think of their fellow members who have been locked out at this time of year. For many of these members Christmas has just been cancelled by their employer. Many members have donated $100 to the fund: if you have not done so yet please consider sending some money now – all donations no matter how small – or large – will make a difference. Message of support are also a great morale boost at a time when it is easy to feel isolated. Staff at the MSAV have made donations to the Fighting Fund, and we have cancelled the staff Christmas Lunch this year, the cost will go into the Fighting Fund. Our objective is to get the locked out members back to work as soon as possible and to provide them with as much support as we can in the meantime.
