The MSAV was formed on 9 September 1981 as a result of the amalgamation of the Association of Hospital Scientists in Victoria, the Dietitians Industrial Association of Victoria and the Medical Laboratory Scientists Association of Victoria, and became a trade union registered under the Victorian Trade Union Act 1958 in the same year.
